Weekly Words of Whizzdom – Be Your Own Kind of Beautiful

Beauty is something nowadays that seems to be determined by society. So even if you find something beautiful personally, there might be a million different messages telling you why it’s not and why you should like this thing or that thing or must look a certain way in order to meet the criteria of someone’s (and who’s?) pre-determined definition of beauty.  Such ideas can also have a negative impact on someone’s self confidence and self-esteem if they feel they cannot truly express themselves or live as authentically as possible through fear of being judged or ridiculed. Beauty can be expressed in so many ways, as well as perceived as such. Whether that’s your physical appearance, clothes, hair, voice… just to name a few things. And sometimes what we perceive as average or not special others might see as the most beautiful thing ever, and this could not just pertain to something physical but even your behaviour. The thing is, a lot of the time we might perceive that others are judging us based on how we look, or how we choose to present ourselves or act. And you know what, a very small, tiny amount of the time they might be. So what? What impact does it have if someone has a thought to themselves? And if they make a comment out loud about someone else and how they present themselves to the world – well, that’s a “them” problem and not a you problem. But the point is, have the confidence to be your own kind of beautiful, you define what beauty is to YOU.
